Periodontal or dental disease is the most frequent problem diagnosed by small animal veterinarians. Eighty percent of all dogs and cats over 2-3 years old suffer from this problem and require treatment. After we determine your pet's degree of periodontal disease, we will formulate a plan. It may be as simple as daily tooth brushing, or we may advise a dental cleaning, which requires general anesthesia.

Our doctors conduct a comprehensive physical exam with pre-anesthetic bloodwork to help ensure safe anesthesia for your pet. If your pet’s health allows, we will schedule a customized dental cleaning. Our veterinary staff constantly monitors our patients as the receive IV fluids to support circulation and manage their pain as needed. The doctor evaluates each tooth, surrounding gums, and oral tissue, checking for any abnormalities such as loose or cracked teeth, abscesses, gingival pockets, or abnormal growths. Our digital dental x-ray machine allows us to visualize structures under the gum line, such as tooth roots and bone.
