To help ensure a safe anesthesia for your pet, our doctors will do a comprehensive physical exam and pre-anesthetic bloodwork. If all looks good, we will schedule a customized dental cleaning. As with all our anesthetic patients, your pet will be constantly monitored, receive IV fluids to support circulation and their pain management issues are addressed. The doctor evaluates each tooth, surrounding gums and oral tissue checking for any abnormalities such as loose or cracked teeth, abscesses, gingival pockets or abnormal growths. Our digital dental x ray machine allows us to visualize structures under the gum line such as tooth roots and bone.
After a thorough exam we will know if any further procedures are necessary, such as an extraction. The application of an anti plaque substance is then generally applied to strengthen the teeth as well as help decrease plaque buildup. Home dental care is critical, we will teach you how to care for your pet’s teeth between dental visits. Daily care is important and we have all the supplies to get you started.
